Sofwave at 101 Harley Street

Our Sofwave treatments sit alongside our surgical work as the choice for patients who want visible tightening but are not ready for a facelift, and as a way to prepare for or maintain surgical results. Every Sofwave plan begins with a consultation led by Dr Duncan Brennand (GMC: 4341662), with the treatment carried out by our experienced clinical team.

Is Sofwave a good alternative to surgery?

Sofwave is a strong option if you have early or moderate skin laxity and want firmer skin without surgery or downtime. It will not replace a facelift where there is heavy sagging or a lot of loose skin, but for many patients it pushes that decision back by years. It also works well in the run-up to surgery and afterwards to help support skin quality. At your consultation, Dr Brennand will tell you honestly whether Sofwave, a facelift, or a combination of the two will give you the result you are after.

How does Sofwave work?

Sofwave delivers focused ultrasound energy to the mid layer of the skin, around 1.2mm below the surface, using a technology called SUPERB. That energy gently heats a precise band of tissue, which prompts your body to produce fresh collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep skin firm and springy. As that new collagen builds over the following weeks, skin on the brow, cheeks, jawline and neck looks tighter and smoother.

Because the energy is delivered below the surface rather than to the top of the skin, the outer layer stays intact. A built-in cooling system protects the skin and keeps the treatment comfortable. There are no needles and no incisions, which is why most people walk out and carry on with their day. You can read more about Sofwave on our L’Atelier Aesthetics website which contains our complete non-surgical treatment offering at 101 Harley street.

Who Sofwave is for, and who it isn’t

Sofwave suits a specific stage of skin ageing. It is at its best for early signs of laxity rather than advanced sagging, and being clear about that is part of giving you the right result.

Sofwave is a good fit if you:

  • Have mild to moderate looseness around the brow, jawline, neck or under the eyes
  • Want a firmer, fresher look without surgery, scars or time off
  • Are thinking about a facelift in future and want to make the most of your skin in the meantime
  • Want to support and help extend the results of facelift or neck lift surgery
  • Have any skin tone, as Sofwave is safe across all skin types

Sofwave may not be the right choice if you:

  • Have significant sagging or a lot of excess skin, where a facelift or neck lift will give a result Sofwave cannot match
  • Have an active skin infection, open skin or cystic acne in the area to be treated
  • Have metal implants in the treatment area
  • Are pregnant

Sofwave, surgery and the middle ground

Most clinics treat skin tightening as either non-surgical or surgical. As a clinic that does both under one roof on Harley Street, we think about Sofwave in three ways.

Before you are ready for surgery

If your skin has started to lose firmness but you are not ready, or not yet a candidate, for a facelift, Sofwave gives a visible lift without committing to an operation. For many patients in their late thirties, forties and fifties it is enough on its own, and it can delay surgery considerably.

Before surgery

Healthy, well-stimulated skin tends to respond and settle better after a procedure. Some patients choose Sofwave in the months before facial surgery to improve skin quality going in. Whether that is worthwhile for you is something Dr Brennand will advise on as part of planning your facial surgery.

After surgery

A facelift repositions deeper tissue, but it does not change the quality of the skin itself. Sofwave is a useful way to keep skin firm and support your result over time once you have fully healed. You can read more in our guide on maintaining facelift results.

Results and what to expect

Sofwave works gradually, because you are seeing your own new collagen rather than an instant change. Some patients notice early tightening within a couple of weeks, but the real result builds over 8 to 12 weeks and can keep improving for several months. Results typically last 12 to 18 months, and many patients have a maintenance session once a year to hold their firmness.

Straight after treatment you may have mild redness, warmth or slight swelling, which usually settles within a few hours. There is no formal recovery period. You can return to work, wear make-up and carry on with your normal skincare the same day. We do advise avoiding dermal filler in the treated areas for two weeks before and after, and we will give you simple aftercare guidance at your appointment.

Sofwave Vs Ultherapy

Sofwave and Ultherapy are both ultrasound skin-tightening treatments. Sofwave is usually quicker, taking around 30 to 45 minutes against roughly an hour for Ultherapy, and patients tend to find it more comfortable. Both are FDA-cleared. For a fuller breakdown, see our comparison of Sofwave vs Ultherapy by clicking read more below.

Sofwave frequently asked questions

Is Sofwave painful?

Most patients find Sofwave very tolerable. You will feel a warming sensation as the ultrasound energy works, but a numbing cream is applied first and the device cools the skin throughout. Any discomfort is brief and there is no lasting soreness once the treatment is finished.

How long do Sofwave results last?

Sofwave results typically last 12 to 18 months. Because the treatment relies on your own collagen, results build over 8 to 12 weeks rather than appearing instantly, and many patients have a maintenance session each year to keep their skin firm.

Is Sofwave safe?

Yes. Sofwave is FDA-cleared and has a strong safety record when performed by trained professionals. At 101 Harley Street it is overseen by Dr Duncan Brennand and carried out by an experienced clinical team in a regulated Harley Street clinic.

Can I have Sofwave instead of a facelift?

For early or moderate laxity, Sofwave can be a genuine alternative and may delay surgery for years. Where there is significant sagging or excess skin, a facelift will give a result Sofwave cannot match. Dr Brennand will give you an honest view at your consultation rather than steering you toward one or the other.

Can Sofwave be used before or after facelift surgery?

Yes. Some patients use Sofwave in the months before facial surgery to improve skin quality, and others use it after healing to help support and extend their result. A facelift repositions deeper tissue, while Sofwave works on the firmness of the skin itself, so the two can complement each other.

How much does Sofwave cost at 101 Harley Street?

Sofwave at 101 Harley Street starts from £999, for 2 areas £1999, 3 areas £2999. The exact cost depends on the areas treated and is confirmed at your consultation.

Who isn’t suitable for Sofwave?

Sofwave is not recommended if you have active skin infection, open skin or cystic acne in the treatment area, metal implants in that area, or significant sagging better suited to surgery. A full consultation confirms suitability before any treatment goes ahead.

Is Sofwave the same as Softwave?

Yes. Softwave is simply a common misspelling of Sofwave. It is the same non-surgical ultrasound skin-tightening treatment, offered at our clinic at 101 Harley Street.
