What Is a Micro Facelift?

A micro facelift is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that lifts and tightens the lower face through small, discreet incisions placed around the ear. It targets early jowling, mild skin laxity, and soft tissue descent along the jawline, delivering a fresher, more youthful appearance without altering your natural facial character.

Sometimes referred to as a short-scar facelift or mini facelift, the procedure is designed for patients who are noticing the early signs of facial ageing but are not yet ready for, or do not require, a full or deep plane facelift. It works on the underlying tissues rather than just the skin surface, producing results that look natural and last.

At 101 Harley Street, a micro facelift takes 1 to 2 hours, is performed under local anaesthetic with sedation or general anaesthetic, and is carried out as a day case. Most patients return to work within 5 to 7 days, with full recovery at 4 to 6 weeks and final results visible at 2 to 3 months.

This technique is ideal for patients who want:

  • A subtle lower-face lift

  • Faster recovery than a traditional facelift

  • Minimal scarring

  • Natural results that still preserve facial expression and personality

Doctor Dan Wright is not only one of the kindest and nicest human beings you could ever meet he’s one of the most professional. At every stage of my procedure I felt reassured and in very safe hands. I would not normally post a review of anything that isn’t a restaurant or a barber but I felt compelled to here because my experience was so wonderful. Fantastic stuff. Brilliant.

Your Journey With 101
What is the difference between a micro facelift and a full facelift?

A micro facelift is a more focused, less extensive procedure than a full facelift. It addresses the lower face through small incisions placed around the ear, targeting early jowling, mild skin laxity, and soft tissue descent along the jawline. A full facelift involves longer incisions and addresses more significant laxity across a wider area of the face and neck. The micro facelift is better suited to patients with early to moderate signs of ageing in the lower face who want a natural result with minimal scarring and a shorter recovery. Patients with more advanced laxity or concerns extending into the neck are likely to achieve better results with a full facelift. Your surgeon at 101 Harley Street will advise on the most appropriate procedure for your anatomy at consultation.

How long does a micro facelift last?

The results of a micro facelift are long-lasting because the procedure addresses the underlying facial tissues rather than the skin surface alone. Most patients enjoy their results for several years. Natural ageing continues after surgery, but from a more youthful baseline. Factors including skin quality, lifestyle, sun exposure, and genetics all influence how results age over time. Your surgeon will give you a realistic picture of longevity based on your individual anatomy at consultation.

Is a micro facelift painful?

A micro facelift is performed under anaesthetic, so you will not experience any pain during the procedure. Some tightness, mild discomfort, and swelling around the lower face and jaw in the days following surgery is normal and expected. Your clinical team at 101 Harley Street will provide prescribed pain management as part of your post-operative care plan, and most patients find any discomfort settles considerably within the first week. Most patients take 5 to 7 days off work and return to normal activities within 1 to 2 weeks.

Will a micro facelift leave visible scars?

The incisions used in a micro facelift are small and placed discreetly around the ear, within the natural hairline and skin creases. This placement means scarring is well concealed and typically very difficult to detect once fully healed. Your surgeon at 101 Harley Street will discuss scar placement and what to expect at each stage of healing at your pre-operative consultation, and full scar care guidance is included as part of your post-operative plan.

Am I too young or too old for a micro facelift?

A micro facelift is not defined by age but by the degree of facial change present. It is most appropriate for patients who are noticing early jowling, mild jawline softening, or the beginnings of skin laxity in the lower face, and who want to address these concerns before they become more pronounced. Patients with more significant laxity or changes across the mid-face and neck may achieve better results with a full facelift. There is no fixed upper age limit, provided the patient is in good general health and a suitable candidate for anaesthetic. Your surgeon will assess your suitability fully at consultation.

How is a micro facelift different from a full facelift?

A micro facelift targets early ageing in the lower face using smaller incisions and shorter downtime, whereas a full facelift addresses more advanced sagging and includes deeper tissue repositioning.

How long do results last?

Results typically last 5–7 years, depending on age, skin quality, and lifestyle.

Will there be visible scars?

Scars are placed discreetly around the ear and typically fade very well over time.

Is the procedure painful?

Most patients experience mild discomfort or tightness, which is easily managed with simple pain relief.

Can a micro facelift be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Common combinations include:

  • Neck tightening

  • Buccal fat removal

  • Chin augmentation

  • Upper or lower blepharoplasty
Your surgeon will advise on the best approach for your goals.

How long do the results last?

Results are long-lasting. With proper care and avoiding heavy earrings, the repair should remain stable for many years.
