Ear Surgery in London

For patients considering otoplasty in London, choosing a clinic with genuine surgical expertise in ear correction is essential. The ears are a complex anatomical structure and achieving a result that looks natural, symmetrical, and proportionate requires both technical precision and an understanding of how the ears relate to the rest of the face.

At 101 Harley Street, otoplasty is performed by consultant plastic and oculoplastic surgeons experienced in ear correction for both adults and younger patients. Every patient is assessed and operated on by a named consultant, with care managed by the same clinical team throughout. Our newly renovated Marylebone day-surgery facility provides a discreet, purpose-built environment for procedures performed under local anaesthetic with sedation or general anaesthetic.

Patients travel to 101 Harley Street from across London and the UK for ear correction surgery. Our clinic is located at 101 Harley Street, Marylebone, W1G 6AH, within easy walking distance of Regent’s Park, Baker Street, and Oxford Circus Underground stations.

If you are considering ear surgery in London, the first step is a consultation with one of our specialists to discuss your concerns and understand what otoplasty can achieve for your individual anatomy.

I highly recommend this clinic to anyone seeking quality medical care.

Doctor Dan Wright is not only one of the kindest and nicest human beings you could ever meet he’s one of the most professional. At every stage of my procedure I felt reassured and in very safe hands. I would not normally post a review of anything that isn’t a restaurant or a barber but I felt compelled to here because my experience was so wonderful. Fantastic stuff. Brilliant.

Otoplasty Frequently Asked Questions

It is common to have questions about a surgical procedure. Some key questions here that we receive from patients considering an Otoplasty.

Your Journey With 101
What is otoplasty and what can it correct?

Otoplasty, also known as ear correction surgery or pinnaplasty, is a surgical procedure that reshapes or repositions the ears to create a more balanced and symmetrical appearance. At 101 Harley Street, it can correct ears that protrude or appear overly prominent, asymmetrical or misshapen ears, ears affected by previous injury or trauma, and concerns following previous ear surgery. The procedure is suitable for both adults and children once the ears have reached close to their adult size. Each procedure is planned individually to achieve a result that looks natural and proportionate to the patient’s facial features.

Is otoplasty painful?

Otoplasty is performed under anaesthetic, so you will not experience pain during the procedure. Some tenderness, tightness, and mild discomfort around the ears in the days following surgery is normal and expected. A headband is worn over the ears during the initial recovery period to protect the position of the ears as healing progresses. Most patients find any discomfort well managed with prescribed pain medication and settles considerably within the first week. Most patients take around one week off work and return to normal activities at 2 to 3 weeks.

Will otoplasty leave visible scars?

The incisions used in otoplasty are placed in the natural crease behind the ear, where any resulting scar is well concealed and very difficult to detect once fully healed. In the majority of patients the scar becomes imperceptible within several months of surgery. Your surgeon at 101 Harley Street will discuss scar placement and what to expect at each stage of healing at your pre-operative consultation.

How long do the results of otoplasty last?

Otoplasty produces permanent results. The ears are surgically repositioned and the cartilage reshaped to hold its new position, and these structural changes do not reverse over time. Once fully healed, the improved ear position and shape is lasting. Natural ageing will continue to affect the ears to a small degree over many years, but the core improvement achieved through surgery is permanent.

At what age can otoplasty be performed?

Otoplasty can be performed from around five to six years of age, once the ears have reached close to their full adult size and the cartilage is sufficiently developed for reshaping. There is no upper age limit for adults, provided the patient is in good general health and a suitable candidate for anaesthetic. Suitability is assessed individually at consultation, and for younger patients the surgeon will involve parents or guardians fully in the planning and consent process.

Will there be visible scars?

No, incisions are placed discreetly behind the ear, leaving only a fine, hidden line that fades over time.

When will I see the results?

Your results are visible immediately once the dressing is removed, with final refinement over three to six months as swelling fully subsides.

Can otoplasty affect hearing?

No. Otoplasty reshapes the external ear and does not impact the inner ear or hearing function.

How long do the results last?

Results are long-lasting and typically permanent, as the ear cartilage maintains its new shape once healed.
